The Cathedral Church of Our Lady Help of Christians and Saint Peter of Alcantara, commonly known as Shrewsbury Cathedral, was opened in 1856. Bob Costello Associates Ltd was commissioned to undertake a condition survey and produce a strategy for development of the mechanical and electrical services in conjunction with the significant upgrading of the Cathedral proposed by Kepczyk Pearce Sanderson Architects.
Recommendations included modifications to the existing heating distribution, new cast iron radiators and thermostatic controls and replacement of the existing gas-fired boiler. Extensive lighting studies were undertaken and a fire detection and alarm system proposed.
The work was undertaken scheduled to enable the Cathedral to remain operational throughout. The completed works considerably improve the visitor experience and provide vastly improved and energy efficient engineering services.
