Case Study: Standon Hall

The refurbishment and conversion of Standon Hall involved the transformation of a historic country house into a high-end wedding and events venue. The project required the careful integration of modern mechanical, electrical, and public health (MEP) services within a valuable heritage building, supporting its new commercial use while preserving its architectural character.

The project involved working within a listed and architecturally significant building, requiring careful consideration of service routes, plant space constraints, and protection of the original fabric. In addition, the building’s change of use to a busy wedding venue demanded robust, flexible, and high-capacity building services capable of supporting peak event loads.

A coordinated MEP strategy was developed to balance performance requirements with heritage sensitivity. Discreet distribution routes and carefully selected plant locations were utilised to minimise visual and physical impact on historic features. Environmental control strategies were tailored to ensure occupant comfort across varying occupancy levels, while lighting design enhanced the ambience of both ceremonial and reception spaces. Systems were designed with reliability and ease of operation in mind, ensuring smooth venue operation during high-demand events, while maintaining energy efficiency and long-term maintainability.

The completed refurbishment has successfully delivered a premium wedding venue that combines historic character with modern building performance. The upgraded MEP systems provide a comfortable, flexible, and resilient environment suitable for a wide range of events, supporting the commercial success of the venue.
