The project involved the transformation of a central London property on Heneage Street into a new gallery space for Gilbert & George, designed to showcase and preserve their distinctive and large-scale artworks. The development required sensitive integration of building services within a constrained urban site, balancing the technical demands of a modern exhibition environment with the architectural vision of the space.
Delivering services within a tight central London site presented several challenges, including limited plant space, complex existing building constraints, and the requirement for well ventilated spaces. Acoustic performance, temperature stability, and humidity control were critical considerations throughout the design process. A carefully coordinated MEP strategy was developed to ensure that all systems were efficiently integrated without compromising the gallery’s aesthetic or spatial requirements. Low-profile distribution routes and discreet plant solutions were adopted where possible.
